I approach manual body therapy from two sides of the spectrum. My work as a certified craniosacral therapist means that I intuit the most subtle layers of the body through gentle yet profound touch. In contrast, the experiences working as a certified Rolfer® and yoga teacher have given me the intelligence, strength and patience to work through the body as a whole, interconnected entity through a diverse range of touch pressure and techniques.
Rolfing® is a “holistic system of soft tissue manipulation and movement education that organize(s) the whole body in gravity” (The Rolf Institute). Manipulation of muscle fascia brings therapeutic benefits, including a freedom of movement, an ease with being in the body and a removal of tightness and/or chronic pain from inefficient body use. Rolfing sessions generally begin with what is known as the ten sessions, which consist of a unique theme and physical territory of the body for each session, highly tailored for each individual’s needs to address tensions, stresses and habit patterns that are held over time in the body.
Craniosacral Therapy is a more subtle healing touch therapy that gently taps into the cerebro-spinal fluid within the spine and existing throughout the body. When the nervous system has been overworked or traumatised, blockages in the fluid and facial tissues of the body can result in headache, fatigue, insomnia, tightness in the jaw, and soreness in the body. This may even play a role in chronic illness or disease. Craniosacral therapy provides a safe space for the body and mind to explore their integral relationship enabling an easing of physical and emotional tension.
